12 Days · Tanzania Luxury Safari
Your Journey
Safari Overview
This 12-day safari is the definitive Tanzania experience — a journey that moves seamlessly from the lush forests of Arusha National Park through the elephant-rich plains of Tarangire, into the cultural heartland of Mto wa Mbu village, down into the ancient bowl of Ngorongoro Crater, across the golden Ndutu calving grounds, and finally to the vast open savannah of the Serengeti.
Every morning and evening game drive brings a new landscape, a new cast of wildlife, and a new story. This is Tanzania at its most complete — big five encounters, the wildebeest migration, intimate cultural immersion, and a hot air balloon sunrise above the Serengeti, all woven together in a single, extraordinary itinerary.
Your Sokwe Africa guide — expert, passionate, deeply knowledgeable — is with you every step of the way. All logistics are handled; all you need to bring is a spirit of adventure.
Day by Day
Your Sokwe Africa representative meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfers you in comfort to your luxury lodge in Arusha. The afternoon is yours to settle in, explore the grounds, and begin absorbing the sights and sounds of East Africa. Your guide meets you for a welcome briefing over dinner, setting the scene for the extraordinary days ahead.
Just 30 minutes from town, Arusha National Park is an extraordinary first safari destination — a mosaic of montane forest, crater lakes, and open grasslands at the foot of Mount Meru. Today's game drive introduces you to giraffe, buffalo, zebra, colobus monkey, and a wealth of birdlife. Lunch is served in the park before an afternoon exploring the Momela Lakes, often fringed with flamingos.
Drive south to Tarangire — one of Tanzania's most underrated treasures, particularly between July and November when enormous elephant herds gather at the Tarangire River. The ancient baobab-studded landscape feels primordial, and game concentrations here rival the Serengeti. Over three days of game drives you'll encounter lions, leopard, cheetah, oryx, and spectacular birdlife. Sundowners in the bush become a nightly ritual.
En route to Ngorongoro, stop in Mto wa Mbu — "River of Mosquitoes" — a vibrant, ethnically diverse village where over 120 Tanzanian tribes coexist. Your guided walking tour winds through local banana plantations, craft markets, and Maasai homesteads. Meet local families, learn about traditional practices, and taste local cuisine — an intimate, ground-level perspective on Tanzanian life that no game drive can replicate. Arrive at your lodge on the crater rim as the sun sets over the caldera below.
Descend into the ancient caldera of Ngorongoro — the world's largest intact volcanic crater, sheltering an astonishing 25,000 large animals within its 19-kilometre walls. Two full days of game drives allow you to experience the crater's extraordinary wildlife at a relaxed pace: black rhino grazing on open plains, lions draped across boulders, hippos wallowing in the soda lake, and vast flamingo flocks painting the shoreline pink. Each descent reveals something new and unforgettable.
Transfer west to the Ndutu area — the shallow seasonal lakes and open woodlands that lie at the heart of the annual wildebeest calving season (December–March). Even outside calving season, Ndutu rewards with extraordinary predator activity: cheetah families hunting in open grassland, leopard resting in fever trees, and enormous prides of lion. The gentle, golden light of Ndutu makes for some of Tanzania's finest photography. Settle into your luxury camp as the African night closes in around you.
Cross into the Serengeti — Tanzania's most iconic park and the stage for the greatest wildlife spectacle on Earth. Game drives span the vast short-grass plains, acacia woodland, and rocky kopjes, searching for the Big Five and following the seasonal movements of the wildebeest migration. On one magical morning, rise before dawn for a hot air balloon flight above the sleeping Serengeti — drifting over herds below as the sun crests the horizon, champagne breakfast awaiting your return landing.
Your final morning offers one last early game drive before transferring to Seronera airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft flight to Kilimanjaro or Arusha Airport. As the Serengeti recedes below, you carry with you a treasury of memories — giraffe silhouettes against dawn skies, lion cubs at play, the thunder of a thousand hooves, and the warmth of Tanzania itself. Your Sokwe Africa team sees you off with safari memories that will last a lifetime.
