Drive to Lake Manyara National Park — one of Tanzania's most visually arresting destinations. The alkaline lake draws tens of thousands of flamingos, painting the shoreline pink. In the groundwater forest, blue monkeys and colobus swing through the canopy overhead, while Manyara's famous tree-climbing lions lounge in fig tree branches above the game track. It is a compact park with an outsized personality — a perfect first full day of game driving that sets the tone for the week ahead.

Two full days in the Serengeti, Tanzania's most iconic park. The sheer scale of the landscape is the first thing to absorb — grassland that rolls unbroken to every horizon, punctuated by rocky kopjes where leopard rest in shade and lions survey their territory. Game drives chase the migration herds, seek out the elusive cheetah on the open plains, and linger at lion pride sightings and leopard in the acacia trees. Evenings at camp, listening to the Serengeti fall silent, are unlike anything else in the world.

Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater at first light — a moment of pure theatrical impact as the caldera opens below. The ancient volcanic floor supports 25,000 animals within its 19-kilometre walls: black rhino grazing on open grass, enormous hippo pools, vast herds of wildebeest and zebra, and dense lion prides. Drive to Tarangire National Park — a landscape unlike anywhere else in Tanzania. Ancient baobabs rise from red-clay earth, and the Tarangire River draws elephant families in their hundreds, particularly between July and November. The park is often overlooked by hurried itineraries, but those who linger find extraordinary rewards: oryx, lesser kudu, a dense and reliable leopard population, and the finest evening light in the northern circuit as the setting sun turns the baobab plains gold.

A final sunrise game drive in Tarangire — one last chance to watch giraffe move through golden morning light and hear lions call across the waking plains.
